Most Member States include methods based on chlorophyll-a data for the assessment of ecological status in coastal water bodies under the Water Framework Directive (WFD), Directive 2000/60/EC.
The Commission Decision (EU) 2018/229 of 12 February 2018 summarizes the results of the 3rd phase of the WFD intercalibration exercise. These results should be applied in the national classification systems in order to set the boundaries between high and good status and between good and moderate status.
